Because you deserve it, of course! Maybe you’re using an iPhone selfie on your linked in profile or a snapshot from the time you were a wedding guest in 2016… it’s ok, it happens. But you deserve to have an updated, breathtaking, and professional Austin headshot of yourself. You are in excellent hands with Heather and her team of professional makeup artists and stylists. When you walk into our photography studio you’ll feel welcomed (even if you’re feeling a bit nervous) and you’ll leave feeling and looking radiant (plan a night out after, trust me!). With over 12 years as a photography business owner and hundreds of people in front of her lens, Heather will take the best photograph of you you have ever seen (she was also named one of Austin’s best photographers by Bride magazine!)

How to prep for your professional headshot session

During our initial chat, we’ll discuss the style you’re looking for in your headshot. This could range from anything to an absolute professional headshot to something more fashion photography inspired. From here I’ll give you suggestions on hair, makeup, and outfit styling.

Hair and makeup

Every headshot session booked with me includes full hair and makeup styling by a professional hair and makeup artist in my studio (this is already included in the cost of your session!). You’ll want to have inspiration images to show your artist when you arrive at my studio. It’s important to pull reference images that show hair texture and length that are similar to yours. If you’re interested in temporary extensions for fullness or a full blowout, we can absolutely make that happen! Make sure we discuss this during our initial call so that my artists have enough time to prep before working their magic.

Outfits

Aside from hair and makeup, this is absolutely where the magic happens. You’ll want to have an outfit you LOVE! The kind of outfit that makes you feel confident (or creative, or strong, or sexy, or whatever look you’re going for!). My recommendation is for you to bring 3-4 outfits with you for your headshot session. Again, I like to reference your inspiration images in advance and can help you with recommendations on pieces to purchase that will complete your look. I love sending clients to rental sites like Rent The Runway. This gives you the option of getting something outside of your traditional style and into something a little more exciting! We’ll have time for 2-3 outfit changes during your time in my studio, depending on the type of session you book. I love to photograph clients in a range of outfit styles to give you as much use for the photos as possible… your social media profile photo could always use a little special update!

Skin and hair prep

You’ll want to arrive at your headshot session with clean skin (no makeup) and dry clean hair. You might have heard other people mention that dirty hair is best, but my stylists like to work on clean hair. I love that you’ll have a great hairstyle for a day or two after leaving a session with me! Please be sure to mention any skin allergies you have. My stylists work with professional products and are skilled in a variety of skin tones and hair textures. That said, if there is a particular product you own (like a particular lipstick) and want to use for your shoot please bring it.

Get plenty of sleep on the nights leading up to your shoot

It’s of course important that you feel your best on the day of your headshot, but don’t even stress if you’re not. I’ve had so many clients come in on the day of their photoshoot saying they are feeling tired, overwhelmed, or stressed and leave feeling like a movie star! I pride it as part of my job to make you feel good after your shoot in addition to looking like a million bucks!

What should you bring to your Austin headshot portrait session

The day is finally here! Let’s do this. Plan on bringing your outfits (with appropriate undergarments) and inspiration images for your hair and makeup artist.

What to expect during your portrait session

You can expect your headshot session to be about 3 hours total, one hour for hair and makeup, and 1.5 hours for your photoshoot. We’ll start with hair and makeup then go right into your photoshoot.  During your headshots Austin session, we’ll play some music and I’ll guide you through various poses in front of my camera. This part is fun, I promise! After your session, you’ll have a personal reveal and ordering session. During the photo reveal we’ll take a look at the stunning photos we created. You’ll get to marvel at your photos and order your favorite images. Put your out of this world headshots to use by uploading them to your linked-in page, facebook, Instagram, or website. All headshots in Austin sessions include your selection of high-resolution images and print release.

How to book your professional headshots session

Send me an email and we’ll schedule an online coffee chat. During this chat, we’ll get to know more about each other. If I’m the right fit for you (I know I will be!), we’ll set up a date and time for your headshot session. I typically like to book your Austin headshots session at least 2-3 weeks in advance to give you time to source your outfits and inspiration images.
